When you start designing a logo, one of the first decisions is the type of logo you need. The two most popular choices are wordmarks and icon logos. Here’s how they compare.
What is a wordmark?
A wordmark is a logo made only from your business name, designed with a unique font and style. Think of brands like Google or Coca-Cola.
Best for:
- New businesses that need people to learn their name
- Short, memorable business names
- Brands that want a clean, timeless look
What is an icon logo?
An icon (or symbol) logo uses a simple graphic to represent your brand, like Apple’s apple or Twitter’s bird.
Best for:
- Brands that want instant recognition
- Apps, social media profiles and small spaces
- Businesses that work across different languages
What about both?
A combination mark pairs your name with an icon. It’s the most flexible choice, because you can use the full logo on your website and just the icon on social media.
Our advice: if your business is new, start with a combination mark or a wordmark so people learn your name. As your brand grows, the icon can stand on its own.
At Abeeras, our Custom Logo Design service includes wordmarks, lettermarks, icons and combination marks, all designed from scratch for your brand.
